Trap in Control is a series of solo performances by Mehmet Ali Simayli that evolve with each appearance. These sets range from dynamic solo drumming, where the interplay of objects and varying moods—from harsh improvisation to micro-sound—shapes the performance, to electro-acoustic explorations where live sample manipulation serves as an extension of the drum set. In some sets, feedback loops on the drums are used as a tool for pitch control. Regardless of the techniques and methods employed, each performance is grounded in gestural expression and movement, making the act of playing as integral to the sound as the instruments themselves.
