FLELK is an improvisation collective that could appear as a duo, a quartet, maybe even a septet due to its boundless collaborative nature. Founded in 2018 at Istanbul Bilgi University as an electro-acoustic free improvisation ensemble by Kuntay Seferoğlu, Can Kuman, and Mehmet Ali Simayli, FLELK became a collective inviting Ege Şahin and creating an online sound repository for all collaborators to contribute and use freely.
With Kuntay’s DIY electronics, muscle sensors, custom software instruments, sound objects, and digital turntables with their field recordings; Mehmet’s dynamic improvised percussion vocabulary and electronic oscillations; Ege’s prepared electric guitar textures, field recordings, and microtonal synthesizers; and Can’s own voice on fretless bass and self-recorded contemporary classical-like samples, FLELK delivers unique, surprising, and provocative performances whenever they get together.
FLELK performed and recorded at Petersburg Art Space Berlin, WORM Rotterdam, Şahika, arkaoda, Bilgi University RGB Studios, and [alt]radio. In 2024, Kuntay Seferoğlu, Mehmet Ali Simayli, and Ege Şahin will appear as FLELK in Europe.
